FAQ's

-Does a doula make decisions on my behalf?
No a doula does not make decisions or speak to the medical staff on behalf of the mother or birth partner. They do give informational and emotional support, while respecting the mothers rights to birth her way.
-Do you do any medical procedures during birth?
No. It crosses the line of conduct of practice for a doula to perform any medical procedures. I can not check fetal heart tones, blood pressure, or do any vaginal checks for dilation.
-Does the doula replace the role of the father?
No. The doula is there to have the father participate as much or as little as he wants to in the labor. The doula just enhances the birth process for everyone involved.
-Doesn’t a nurse do the same thing a doula does?
Nurses serve a very great purpose in a hospital setting, however they have to attend to several women and cannot always stay in the room for the entire labor process. A doula will stay by your side the entire time you are in labor. She will only leave to go to the bathroom or get something for you to eat or drink if your spouse does not want to leave your side.
-What types of birth does a doula attend to?

Hospital, home birth, or birth center births. Unmedicated or medicated. Doulas don’t attend any specific type of birth they attend all. My job as a doula is to protect your right to labor how you want to and to make sure that you get exactly what you want out of your birth.
